आनंद दिघे हे शिवसेनेतील एक महत्त्वाचे नेते होते. शिवसेनेचा विस्तार वाढविण्यात त्यांची भूमिका महत्वाची होती. ते व्यवसायाने बांधकाम व्यावसायिक होते. हॉटेल व्यवसायातही त्यांनी जम बसविला होता. महाराष्ट्राचे माजी उपमुख्यमंत्री आणि शिवसेनेचे माजी नेते छगन भुजबळ यांनी दिघेच्या निधनानंतर दुःख व्यक्त करतांना म्हटले आहे की, त्यांनी कोणत्याही पदासाठी कधीही आकांक्षा ठेवली नाही, परंतु पक्षात संघटनेसाठी होणाऱ्या आंदोलनात त्यांनी उत्साहाने सहभाग घेतला. त्यांच्या निस्वार्थ बोलण्याबद्दल त्यांना लोक लक्षात ठेवतील. पक्षासाठी त्यांनी केलेले कार्य हे शिवसेनेच्या कार्यकर्त्यांना नेहमीच प्रोत्साहन देणारे ठरले. पक्षाच्या नेत्यांसाठी त्यांचे कार्य समर्पित होते.
ठाण्यातील नागरिकांच्या समस्या ऐकून / त्यांचे निराकरण करण्यासाठी ते दररोज दरबार ठेवत. ‘शिवसेनेचे ठाणे-ठाण्याची शिवसेना’ असा नारा देत गेल्या ४५ वर्षांपासून सर्वार्थाने ठाणे शिवसेनेचा बालेकिल्ला राहिला. ठाणेकरांनी शिवसेनेला भरभरून दिले आणि त्यामुळेच ‘शिवसेनेचे ठाणे’अशी या शहराची राजकीय ओळख निर्माण झाली. १९६७ मध्ये वसंतराव मराठे यांच्या रूपाने शिवसेनेला ठाण्याने पहिला नगराध्यक्ष दिला. शिवसेनेच्या राजकीय वाटचालीत हे पहिले आणि तितकेच महत्त्वाचे यश होते. साहजिकच तेव्हापासून गेली चार दशके या शहरावर शिवसेनेची एकहाती हुकूमत राहिली आहे. आनंद दिघे म्हणजे तर शिवसेनेचा ढाण्या वाघच. आनंद दिघे हे जिल्ह्य़ातील राजकीय वाटचालीत एकमेव असे निर्विवाद नेतृत्व मानले गेले. आनंद दिघे यांच्यावर भरभरून प्रेम करणाऱ्या ठाणेकरांनी सलग १९ वर्षे महापालिका शिवसेनेच्या ताब्यात ठेवली.
स्वर्गीय दिघे यांचेही ठाणेकरांशी जिव्हाळयाचे नाते होते. शहरातला टेंभी नाका हा केवळ शिवसैनिकांसाठी नाही, तर सर्वसामान्य ठाणेकरांसाठीही न्यायमंदिर होते. दिघे यांच्या कार्यपद्धतीविषयी कदाचित वेगवेगळे मतप्रवाह असतीलही, परंतु या शहरावर दिघेंची हुकूमत निर्विवाद होती, हे कुणालाही नाकारता येणार नाही. ठाणे आणि शिवसेना यांच्यामधील हा दुवा एक प्रकारची ऐतिहासिक ठेव मानली पाहिजे. जोवर आनंद दिघे होते तोवर शिवसेनेपेक्षा दिघे यांच्यावर विश्वास ठेवून आणि दिघेंच्या पश्चात त्यांच्या कार्याची पोहोचपावती म्हणून ठाणेकरांनी शिवसेनेच्या पारड्यात मतांचे भरभरून दान घातलेय. १९८९ मध्ये आनंद दिघे यांनी ठाण्याला मुंबईतील बेस्टच्या धर्तीवर उत्तम सार्वजनिक व्यवस्था मिळावी म्हणून ‘टीएमटी’ परिवहन सेवा सुरू केली. स्वतंत्र अस्तित्व, स्वतंत्र निर्णयक्षमता परिवहनला दिला.
ठाणे जिल्हय़ात ९०च्या दशकात शिवसेना तळागाळापर्यंत पोहोचवण्याचे काम शिवसेनेचे ठाणे जिल्हाप्रमुख आनंद दिघे यांनी केले. दिघे यांच्या कार्यपद्धतीवर लोकशाहीवर प्रेम करणारा माणूस विश्वास ठेवेलच याची शाश्वती नाही. पण, शिवसेनाप्रमुख बाळासाहेब ठाकरे यांची शिवसेना थेट मोखाड्याच्या पाड्यापर्यंत पोहोचवण्याचे काम दिघे यांनी यथाशक्ती केले.
ठाणे व ठाणे जिल्ह्यावर, विशेषतः आनंद दिघेंवर बाळासाहेबांचे उदंड प्रेम .प्रत्येक निवडणुकीला शिवसेनाप्रमुख ठाण्यात यायचे. त्यांच्या सभा व्हायच्या, त्यांच्या भाषणाला तुफान गर्दी व्हायची. `मला ठाण्याची चिंता नाही. ठाणेकर माझे सगळे उमेदवार विजयी करतील, याची मला खात्री आहे. त्यामुळे मी प्रचाराच्या अखेरच्या टप्प्यात एखादी सभा घेईन,' अशा शब्दात ते ठाणेकरांवर विश्वास व्यक्त करत. `ठाणे जिल्हा माझा जिल्हा आहे. मी ज्या दगडाला शेंदूर फासेन, त्याला ठाणेकर विजयी करतील.' याच विश्वासाच्या जोरावर त्यांनी बेलापूरमधील दिग्गज उमेदवार गणेश नाईक यांच्या विरोधात सीताराम भोईर यांना आमदारकीसाठी उभे केले. यावर आनंद दिघे यांनी सर्वस्व पणाला लावून गणेश नाईकांसमोर काहीशा नवख्या अशा सीताराम भोईर यांना निवडून आणले. ठाण्याच्या विधानसभा मतदारसंघात चार भाग झाले तेव्हा ३ जागांवर शिवसेना निवडून आली. एकनाथ शिंदे, प्रताप सरनाईक आणि राजन विचारे असे तिघेजण आमदार झाले.
ज्यावेळी उद्धव व राज यांच्यात धुसफूस सुरू होती, तेव्हा आनंद दिघे अस्वस्थ होते. या दोन्ही भावात संघर्ष झाल्यास आपण हिमालयात जाऊ किंवा शिवसेना प्रमुखांजवळ जाऊन राहू. मध्यंतरी काही वर्षापूर्वी बाळासाहेब यांनी मुंबईची जबाबदारी तू सांभाळ, नाशिक `राज’ पाहिल’ असे उद्धव ठाकरेंना सांगितले होते. ते त्यांचे वाक्य व निर्णय २०१२ मध्ये तंतोतंत खरं ठरले. मुंबई-ठाण्यात `उद्धवचे’ तर नाशकात `राज’चे प्रभुत्व झाले. २६ ऑगस्ट २००१, रोजी शिवसेना ठाणे जिल्हा प्रमुख आनंद दिघे यांचा अपघाती मृत्यू झाल्याने अवघा महाराष्ट्र हळहळला होता.
२७ जानेवारी हा आनंद दिघे यांचा जन्मदिन. बाळासाहेबांनी दिघे यांच्यावर पुत्रवत प्रेम केले. बाळासाहेब आणि दिघे या दोन नेत्यांमधील असलेले विश्‍वासाचे नाते शेवटपर्यंत टिकून होते. दिघे शिवसेनेच्या वाटचालीतील अनेक घटनांचे साक्षीदार होते. धगधगती मशाल होती. गुंडगिरीबरोबरच समांतर सरकार राबवीत असल्याचा आरोप त्यांच्यावर नेहमीच झाला. त्यांची निष्ठा होती ती शिवसेनाप्रमुखांवर आणि शिवसेनेवर. मुक्त हस्ते मदत हाच त्यांचा धर्म होता. त्यांच्या "दरबारा'त म्हणूनच साधुसंताबरोबरच मुल्ला-मौलवी, पाद्रीही दिसत. चार खासदार, आठ-दहा आमदार निवडून आणण्याची ताकद ज्या माणसाकडे होती, ते दिघे आमदारच काय मंत्रीही झाले असते; परंतु आयुष्यभर शिवसेनाप्रमुखांप्रमाणे एकच पद घेऊन शिवसेनेत जगले. ते पद होते "शिवसेना ठाणे जिल्हाप्रमुख".

Shiv Sena's Thane-Thane Shivsena 'slogan' Shiv Sena's Thane-Thane Shiv Sena ' Thanekar stressed the Shivsena and hence the 'Shivsena's Thane' became the political identity of the city. Thane gave Shiv Sena the first municipal president in the year 1967 in the form of Vasantrao Marathe. This was the first and equally important achievement of Shivsena's political career.
